Strengthen Your Quads and Alleviate Knee Pain with Leg Extensions and the Tib Bar

Weak quads got your knees like 😱 ?

The quadriceps muscles (aka Quads) help within knee stability and proper tracking of the kneecap (patella). Weakness or imbalances in the quadriceps can lead to altered mechanics, lower knee stability and overall irritation of your knee. The impact varies from person to person as knee pain can be complex, so building Quad strength is generally always beneficial.

Leg extensions build up your quad strength easily and scale to your pain-free range of motion.

Similar to hammies (hamstrings), strong quads also help stabilize your knee while also acting like shock absorbers so activities like walking/running/jumping/squatting don't shred your knees.

My favorite three major leg extension variations are

  1. Tib Bar
  2. Machine
  3. Banded

As mentioned in our previous article, the Tib Bar is the easiest to do at home while scaling up. But if you have access to a gym, machines are another great alternative.
